Tatiana Nikolaenko trained in ceramics and glass. However, she has always been interested in experimenting with new materials, technologies and ideas. She tries to work beyond issues of materiality, exploring space and harmony, order and chaos. More recently she has begun to investigate a diverse range of materials inspired by contemporary fine art practices, which has broadened her vision and opened new directions for her work. Her practice is based on the fields of sculptural craft and interior design as well as media art and public art. Tatiana Nikolaenko teaches students in higher education in the State Academy of Industrial Arts in St Petersburg and is the curator for a project in an annual children’s summer school. Her studio is located in the “Rural Community of Artists” where students and young people engage with professional artists from a variety of disciplines and participate in collaborative projects. She likes to travel and take on challenging projects.
